Description of Ulrich's sailboat
Marstal - Galeasse | 13 People
Yrsa is a galleass built in Marstal in 1901 (more on that below). She is 18 meters long on deck and 24 meters long overall. Inside, in addition to the skipper's cabin, we have a spacious mess, a galley in the deckhouse, and a forepeak. In total, Yrsa can accommodate up to 10 people (we are allowed to take 12 people, but then we have to cuddle up at least at night). A reliable Volvo 6-cylinder engine hums in the engine room, and if necessary, we have a generously dimensioned generator on board. However, wherever and whenever possible, we try to turn off the engine and move around as Yrsa's builders intended 124 years ago. As a galleass, Yrsa is a typical cargo sailing vessel of the Danish North Sea and Baltic Seas. A full bow and a sharply cut stern make her a prime example of the typical Marstal ships. Essentially, she's a gaff-rigged ketch with a topsail on her forward mast. When we hoist sail, it's "all hands on deck," and everyone pitches in! Sailing on our "old lady" is a very special experience; the crew bond naturally, and many long-lasting friendships have been formed on board. We're all in the same boat, literally. Our trips to the Baltic Sea depart from the wonderful Flensburg Museum Harbor. Our main cruising areas are the Danish South Sea, the Swedish Peninsula, and perhaps in the future, the North Sea and even the British Isles.

We spent a day trip with a group of friends, including an overnight stay, on the Yrsa and were absolutely thrilled. Booking was super easy, with plenty of room for individual arrangements regarding times, tours, food, etc. Many thanks to Ulrich! He is a very personable and competent skipper with whom we had a wonderful day and always felt safe. The comfort on a historic ship is naturally kept simple, but everything was great. Overall, we had a very nice trip with Ulrich and the Yrsa and would definitely recommend her!
