Charter a boat in Greece and enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine. Have a day of fun in the warm, glistening sea on an idyllic sailing holiday.

How much does it cost to rent a boat in Greece?

The price of a boat charter in Greece depends on several factors. Some of these include the location in which you find your boat charter in Greece, the size and model of the boat, the season, the number of people, and the duration of the trip. What is included in the cost?

The cost of a boat rental in Greece often includes fuel, but extras like a skipper, crew, water sports equipment, and additional amenities may have separate charges. Make sure to clarify what's included with the boat owner.

How much are mooring fees in Greece?

Mooring fees can vary depending on the port and time of year. Some marinas offer free mooring for patrons who dine at their restaurants or use other facilities, while others might charge a nominal fee. It's advisable to check with your rental company or the marina for specific information.

Should I rent a boat with or without a skipper in Greece?

Unless you are an experienced sailor, we usually recommend sailing with a skipper. You don't have to worry about the weather and wind direction; you can put your feet up and enjoy the view! A skipper is also a great way of learning more about sailing and can be an excellent option for beginner sailors wanting to improve. They can also turn your trip into a personalised sailing experience and lead you to the most desirable locations! Adding a skipper to your boat hire begins at €180 per day.

If you have the requisite experience, we have many without-skipper options on our platform. To sail a bareboat charter, you must have the appropriate licence. Otherwise, you can also find boats that do not require a licence. To sail without a skipper in Greece (except for small boats that do not require a licence), you must have a valid offshore navigation licence for over 12 m and another experienced crew member. Licences will be approved at the port before leaving. If in doubt, consult an advisor or the boat owner.

When you choose a boat hire in Greece with or without a skipper, Greek sailing holidays will always be fantastic and full of adventure.

Which season is the best to rent a boat in Greece?

For pleasant warm weather and excellent sailing conditions, sail in May. The temperatures peak in July and August, with various areas reaching up to 30°C during the daytime. Athens can sometimes be somewhat overwhelming in August, with its hot weather and tourism in full swing. However, a Greece boat rental awaits you at sea, so prepare for peace and tranquillity!

If hiring a boat during the peak summer seasons, be aware of the Northerly Meltemi wind. The Meltemi generally picks up by June/July and blows at its strongest in August. Areas like the Cyclades Islands have more forceful winds due to the lack of a mainland encircling the archipelagos. As a result, the wind force in the Cyclades usually is 5-7. For example, the Ionian islands' wind force ranges from 2-5.

What is there to do during my boat rental in Greece?

Are you visiting Athens or sailing in the Ionian Sea near the Attic Coast and Saronic Gulf? Your number one priority should be viewing the Acropolis and Parthenon. Athens is a historical landmark for Europe and still holds many ancient treasures and buildings. Its centre also has plenty of lovely bars, restaurants and cafes for refuelling after sightseeing!

For the Ionian Islands, you can find party destinations such as Kavos and Corfu Town for those willing to dance the night away or host a private boat party. Yet there are also stunning beaches and quiet coves where you can unwind in the peaceful harmony of light waves against the pearl-white sand with the scent of fresh sea salt. Tip: Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia is a personal favourite of ours!

Islands off the eastern coast of Greece are laden with natural beauty. For instance, the Sporades Islands are encompassed in gorgeous stretches of sand and pebbles where you can bathe and snorkel. Don't forget to visit the historical buildings, churches and fortresses on the islands, where you can lose yourself in Grecian archaeology and architecture.

The Cyclades possess vibrant towns with plenty of nightlife in the summertime and unique landmarks such as the windmills of Kato Mili in Mykonos. Santorini's blue-domed churches are postcard-perfect against the shimmering sea, though this island is also renowned for its wine due to the fertile earth of the island.
