Description of Vedran's sailboat
Meta - Joshua | 6 People
Halfway between traditional sailing and modern pleasure boating, enjoy a unique experience aboard "Le Grand Meaulnes." This steel sailboat was built by the Meta shipyard in 1967. It is one of the last sister ships (i.e., built to the same design, by the same shipyard) of the original "Joshua," the legendary boat of sailor/writer Bernard Moitessier. It measures 12.20m on deck, 14m overall, and 3.61m wide. Due to its origins, this boat is very robust and safe, but also powerful thanks to its excellent canvas. After traveling from Brittany to China via Cape Horn for many years, it is now based at the Douarnenez port-museum. Its layout differs slightly from the Joshua in that its cockpit is located aft, which provides plenty of space on deck and a large, bright saloon. Inside, via the companionway, you'll find the galley to starboard, opening onto a spacious and comfortable saloon. A good-sized table allows for those wonderful moments of conviviality characteristic of sailing. Below, the navigation station with its large chart table allows you to take bearings with a Cras ruler and a dry-point compass, as was customary before the advent of GPS. The boat is also equipped with modern electronic navigation equipment. A passageway leads to the toilets and a large double berth, also opening onto the saloon. At the end of the passageway, the forward cabin has two bunk berths on each side with their essential anti-roll canvas. At the very front is the sail locker.
