Yacht rentals in Corsica

There are few islands in the Mediterranean Sea that compare to Corsica, the largest part of France outside of the mainland. With ports, coves and hidden away sheltered bays at almost every turn, hiring a yacht for a week, or even longer, is a superb way to get to know this often-overlooked corner of Europe. Bear in mind that almost half of the island – including much of its rugged coastline – is given over to natural parkland so it is simply spectacular when viewed from onboard your rented yacht.

From Corsica, the price of a yacht hire will start from about $1,500 per day but you can expect to pay more if you need a vessel with skipper and crew. If you know how to rent and are planning on skippering your vessel yourself, then you will need an appropriate licence that is recognised in the European Union. Many of the waters around the island are crystal

clear, so it is a great place for a charter if you like to swim, snorkel or SCUBA dive. Always ensure you give your yacht adequate clearance because there are plenty of underwater rocks you'll need to avoid if you get too close to Corsica's many steep cliffs.

One of the areas of outstanding beauty to be found in Corsica is the stunning Scandola Nature Reserve which is best viewed from the sea. The Golfe de Saint-Florent, in the north of the island, provides great vistas and some protection from high winds, too, should you need to deal with harsh weather. The port of Piombino, in the province of Livorno on the Italian mainland, is a pleasant day's sailing from Bastia, Corsica's second city.
