A felucca is a sailboat 8 to 13 meters long that is found on the Nile , the Red Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean. Formerly used for transporting goods, they are now used for short trips (small feluccas) or cruises (large feluccas) over several days. Navigation Attached to the first mast is a sort of second mast which itself supports the large trapeze-shaped mainsail. A whole set of ropes is then used to perform the maneuvers necessary for navigation. The rudder is located at the rear of the felucca and allows you to set the course. The daggerboard, whose lever is located on the first half of the felucca, is activated at each departure. It allows the felucca to maintain very good stability regardless of the strength of the wind. You never feel any roll. The sail is folded on itself around the mast at night. The felouquiers then climb the mast, about 10/15 m high, via very small wedges superimposed on the mast approximately every 80cm. A real balancing act, impressive!! The wind The pace of navigation depends on the wind, its strength but also its direction. Each day offers a different atmosphere and cruising speed, sometimes dynamic and fast, sometimes much calmer and slower. Depending on where the wind is coming from and depending on the route, you may have to make big turns or go straight... This gives two very different styles of navigation: the first sporty, you "tack" and you changes course constantly, the second much quieter, for example downwind, we move forward without having to maneuver, with all sail open, flat against the mast. Sometimes the wind is too strong or on the contrary not enough. When there is too much wind navigation is almost impossible. When there is no wind, the felucca can use the current of the Nile, if the route is in the Aswan - Luxor direction, or be assisted by the towing of a motor boat if the route is in the other direction. There is always a way forward! **Please Note: Price per day is for 1-2 people only Additional people are charged as follows 2-5 additional guests €35 euro each 5-12 additional guests €25 euro each
