About the experience

Escape the crowds and venture into Venice’s wilder, lesser-known southern lagoon on this full-day adventure. This cruise is perfect for those looking to explore beyond the postcard canals and dive into the hidden stories, villages, and nature that shaped the soul of the Serenissima. With optional stops and a chance for a swim, it’s a dynamic journey through Venice’s untamed beauty.

Departing from the Zattere promenade in the Dorsoduro district, we’ll glide past Giudecca Island and head into the wide, open waters of the southern lagoon. Along the way, you may choose to stop at San Lazzaro degli Armeni, an ancient Armenian monastery rich in art and history, or the hauntingly quiet island of Poveglia, steeped in mystery and legend.

We then make our way to Malamocco, a charming and historic village where the Venetian Republic first laid its foundations. Narrow alleys, stone bridges, and timeless silence give you a glimpse of Venice as it once was. Our journey continues to Pellestrina, a peaceful fishing island lined with colorful houses and calm sea views. Here, you’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch and the slow rhythm of lagoon life.

On the return journey, weather permitting, you’ll have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the calm southern waters—a perfect way to end your southern escape. This cruise blends history, quiet beauty, and immersive discovery, revealing a side of Venice far removed from the usual tourist trail.

As the years go by, I have been more and more wary of spending without prior knowledge or guarantees. I was nervous about this purchase - but all fears were allayed. Everything promised was delivered. Francesco was constantly in touch and we met near San Marco exactly on time. He was an excellent guide - he was available for questions, offered freely explanations about the areas we were boating in, made a detour for us to an island to check on a purchase, helped us take a finale photo by positioning the boat -- and he even took us into the Grand Canal (breaking a rule slightly) so we could enjoy that major thoroughfare. He is not an older "salty" captain, but instead an urbane, traveled polyglot. He has a Master's degree, lived abroad, is an entrepreneur, and a watch aficionado. We stayed on the boat past our official end time, and he helped the following day arrange for a special taxi to come get us at our hotel. This boat trip was 120% of what I had wanted it to be. I can say that having taken a day boat really makes me feel like I've "been" to Venice. This boat makes me think of movie stars and Lake Como. This captain made it the perfect day.

We had an amazing trip. We highly recommand Francesco's take on Venice. His knowdelege of the city and his kindness made this journey very special. The boat is beautiful and confortable, it was a birthday present for my girlfriend and this is by far the best experience we had in La Serenissa.
