Yes, it is possible to rent a boat in Palma de Mallorca both with and without a skipper.  However, in order to rent a boat without a skipper, you either need to have a valid boating license, or rent a boat that is smaller than 5 metres (16.4 ft) and has an engine with a low enough horsepower.  You will need to look up the exact rules before going and make sure that you have the relevant insurance.
Renting a boat in Palma de Mallorca with a skipper is ideal if you want to get to know the most beautiful places in the area and just enjoy the ride. You can rent boats in Palma de Mallorca without a skipper if you have the appropriate boating license or if boats are offered that do not require a license. Of course, being the captain of your own boat is not just incredibly fun, but also freeing.

What are the weather and sailing conditions like in Palma de Mallorca?

In the summer months, from April to October, a boat trip in Palma de Mallorca is particularly nice. The temperatures are pleasant to very hot and it hardly rains. If you like temperatures above 30ºC (86ºF), then you should travel to Palma de Mallorca for July and August, but don't forget your sun cream! In the other summer months it is not quite as warm, but the beaches are much less busy. With a boat, however, you have the choice of which beach to go to all year round and you can choose the quietest one.

When is the best time to go to Palma de Mallorca?

If you’re going to Mallorca to swim, then you should plan on going midsummer, as the sea then reaches temperatures of over 20ºC (68ºF)!  However, this is also the busiest time of year and so the prices are also usually very high.  Of course, a trip in winter is also worthwhile, because in Mallorca the sun shines 300 days a year. In addition, you will often find cheaper and more numerous offers in the winter months.  Having said this, the best time to go is generally either in April/May or in September/October as the temperatures are still usually fairly warm, the rain minimal, and the crowds and hence the prices much lower.

What to do in Palma de Mallorca?

There are many amazing things that you can do in Palma de Mallorca.  You can hike through the dense pine forests to Bellver Castle, one of the only circular castles in Europe.  During the summer they host classical concerts here, as well as other events so you should try to plan your trip accordingly to catch one of these.
You can also fill up on food in the San Juan Mercado Gastronomico and this is truly a treat.  They serve lots of different types of food here from seafood to burgers, but the one thing you absolutely must try while you’re here is the squid ink tortilla.  It may look terrifying, being pitch black, but it tastes delicious.
Other things you can also do include looking around Joan Miró’s studio, wandering through the beautiful, picturesque streets of the old town and partying the night away in one of the clubs.  Of course, it goes without saying that the swimming and snorkeling opportunities here are also fantastic.

How to get to Palma de Mallorca?

The easiest and fastest way to get to Mallorca is by plane, with direct flights going from many UK airports, as well as a multitude of other European countries.  You can then comfortably get to your boat from the airport by taxi or bus. The port of Palma de Mallorca is located in the middle of the city. If you intend to explore the island more extensively, you can easily rent a car at the airport and leave it in Palma during your boat trip.  If you fancy being a little more adventurous, you can also choose to take your boat charter from mainland Spain or another nearby island.

Palma is a beautiful place with lots to see, the old town and buildings are stunning and there are lots of nice restaurant and hidden roof top bars. I would recommend booking a table for dinner on the weekend as the popular restaurants get busy. Hire a boat for the day and see the coast line. Can’t wait to return.

We did not stay exactly in Palma but in Genova. Palma is OK, expecially the cathedral. But be beware of the cruising ships … thousands of tourists that pour in the city for a couple of hours. If you like sailing … a good trip is going north ... the way to Soler is nice and Soler is a nice city.

Simply amazing. Best sailing place in the world. Wind conditions are normally perfect, 8-20knots. Draft is incredibly deep almost everywhere... you can sail w piece of mind and anchorage in many places or just berth in any of the ports the island offers. The waters are very clean, transparent with a stunning array of colours. Just great!

Palma is a really nice island. There is a lot to do in the city of Palma as well as the smaller cites around the island. I really like the city of Palma because it offers all that I like. Great bars, restaurants, and a good nightlife. The views of the pier is nice as well.
