All about Catamaran Rentals in Miami

Catamaran rentals in Miami are popular for all parties wishing to enjoy this tropical, yet metropolitan sailing destination. Whether you wish to host your own exclusive boat parties and hit the hottest clubs on Miami Beach, or have the most adventurous family holiday, all the while in the comfort of your own catamaran rental, this type of vessel is ideal. Principally due to the spaciousness of a catamaran, but also the double hull structure that increases stability and reduces the risk of seasickness, all kinds of activities will be enjoyable in a catamaran.

Famed for its "Floribbean" cuisine, its nightlife, Art Deco architecture and warm, crystalline waters, Miami is more than just a bustling American city, it's a vibrant hub for chartered catamarans. Whether half-day, full-day or week-long experiences, a catamaran charter in Miami will allow you to view the South Florida coast from a completely new perspective, before sailing down to the Florida Keys and east to the Bahamas. Most families will charter from the popular, larger marinas in Miami Beach or Downtown Miami, with additional rentals available from the quieter Coconut Grove. Be sure to book in advance to secure the marina services.

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in Miami?

There are many different factors that can affect the price of catamaran charter in Miami.  Some of these include the duration of your trip, the size and model of your boat, and the amenities on board.  If you choose to rent with a skipper, you will also need to pay extra for this service.  In general, though, you will pay around $5272 per day or $36904 per week to charter a catamaran in Miami.

Which sailing areas should you visit during your Miami catamaran rental?

There are a number of different areas where you can set sail on your catamaran tour of Miami.  We advise that your book your Miami catamaran rental for at least a week to allow you enough time to experience the city properly.  While you can, of course, use your sailing time to take a day trip to Biscayne National Park or Virginia Key, you can also plan longer trips to either the Florida keys in the south or the Bahamas to the east.

A Miami catamaran cruise to the Florida Keys is especially popular on account of the range of places you can stop off at along the way.  Set sail past Stiltsville, an abandoned water-borne village that consists of wooden shacks on stilts, for something unique.  After this, you can either do a U-turn and go up past Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park or continue south to Key Largo, before setting off on an epic, island-hopping adventure in your Miami catamaran charter.

Of course, if you want a trip where you stay a little closer to your starting point, Miami is also home to a plethora of sand bars where you can sail to in your vessel.  This is a great way to really experience Miami as the locals do and is a very relaxing experience.  You can even organise your trip for February so that you are in Miami when the International Boat show is taking place.  This is not only a great place to go to see some very impressive boats, but also to connect with other boat enthusiasts from all over the world.

Where can you rent a catamaran in Miami?

You can charter a catamaran in all of our Miami boat rental locations; Miami Beach, Downtown Miami and Coconut Grove.  Miami Beach is of course more central and a larger marina. However, if you’re looking to sail to the Florida Keys or Key Biscayne, Coconut Grove is closer and in a chilled-out part of town with great bars and shops.

What to do when you charter a catamaran in Miami?

There are so many unique things to do when you rent a catamaran in Miami that we can guarantee you won’t be bored.  Bathe in the cool waters of the Venetian Pool in Coral Gables to completely immerse yourself in an ancient paradise of waterfalls, palm trees, and impressive architecture that wears the effect of its many years proudly.

If you want a slightly longer Miami catamaran cruise, you don’t have to stay in Miami at all.  You can choose to take your Miami catamaran rental to Cuba, where you will experience a completely different atmosphere.  Sample some of the sumptuous local dishes in Versailles Restaurant in the district of Little Havana before moving onto one of the bars and clubs to enjoy the nightlife.  The Ball & Chain is a salsa bar that is especially popular due to their live jazz nights and original Cuban cocktails.

If you want to hit the shops, you should head over to Lincoln Road, famous on the island for its wide selection of local boutiques and coffee shops, perfect for escaping from the notorious summer showers.

Or, if you aren’t really a fan of coffee, you should visit the Wynwood Art District to sample the craft beer in one of the many biergartens and breweries.  Wynwood Brewing Company, Miami’s original craft brewery, was so popular that the beer brewing industry quickly expanded.

Wondering where you can sail on your catamaran charter? Try Key Biscayne, an idyllic barrier island with gorgeous sandy beaches. The Florida Keys are further south and heavenly for a relaxing catamaran charter.

When is the best time to rent a catamaran in Miami?

Going on a catamaran cruise in Miami is going to be a fantastic experience throughout the majority of the year on account of the temperatures which stay between 20 and 30°C (68-86°F) year-round.

Spring is generally considered the best time to visit Miami for a catamaran rental as the temperatures are nice without being too hot.  You can also plan your trip so that it coincides with Calle Ocho, a Cuban American festival that consists of amazing street parties where you can try some of the sumptuous street food.

In the summer, you are guaranteed spectacular weather, but the crowds of tourists will also flock to the beaches.  This will push the boat prices up and will also mean that there is generally less availability.

Generally speaking, we wouldn’t recommend going to Miami in Autumn, as this is when the hurricanes usually strike (although technically, the season runs from June until November).  There is always a risk during this period that you will be unable to sail due to poor weather, so it is generally best not to risk it.

Another great time to visit Miami is during the winter.  The temperatures during this period will stay at around 20°C (68°F) and prices will generally be lower.  If you want to immerse yourself in Miami life during this time, you should go to the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, which starts in February.  Alternatively, you can also go to the Art Deco Weekend if you visit in January.  The key is just to work out what sort of experience you want, and plan your trip accordingly.

How to Rent and Charter a Boat in Miami

If your family is looking to explore the Miami area on its own, you don't need to have any prior experience in knowing how to rent a vessel. Simply choose your vessel with a skipper online for a suggested itinerary. Most Miami-bound charters will hug Miami's coast before circumnavigating Key Biscayne, taking in the fantastic city night viewpoints from the sea and the sparkling lights of downtown Miami. Your Miami catamaran charter can take you around the shoreline past Brickell Avenue, with spectacular views of Bayfront Park, Watson Island and the celebrity hotspot, Star Island.  How to get to your Miami catamaran rental If you’re flying into Miami International Airport (MIA), you can get public transport (or a taxi) to all three of our Miami catamaran rental locations. Downtown Miami and Coconut Grove are approximately 7-8 miles away, whereas Miami Beach a little more at 13 miles.
