About the experience

Eight hours on the water aboard a 17-metre Dufour 56 Exclusive, shaped around two things: a coastline worth exploring and a skipper who teaches while you sail. Whether you have never held a sheet or simply want more time at the helm, this is a day to learn by doing, with a route you choose together.

The day starts in Izola with a short briefing on the boat and on safety. Then comes the real sequence of a sailing day: leaving the berth, using the engine in the marina, hoisting and trimming the sails, reading the wind, steering on different courses and learning the knots that every sailor needs. The program adapts to your level, so beginners can focus on the basics while more experienced guests can refine their manoeuvres and boat handling.

Between lessons, the yacht takes you somewhere worth the trip. Izola sits on the Slovenian coast, a short sail from the Italian shore, so you can cruise along the Slovenian coastline, with the old walls of Piran and the salt pans near Portorož seen from the sea, or cross to the Italian side, where Trieste, Miramare and Porto Piccolo are among the destinations your skipper can suggest. Swim stops are part of the day, and the stand-up paddleboards on board give you another way to enjoy the water. The large cockpit is the place to talk, eat and watch the coast change.

A private lesson means more time at the helm and more answers to your questions than on a crowded course, and the team has eight seasons of experience skippering and teaching on this stretch of the Adriatic. Food and drinks are not provided, so bring a picnic and enjoy lunch on board. Skipper and fuel are included in the price, which covers the entire yacht, so your group sails privately and there is nothing to pay at the dock.
