All about Boat Rentals in Ibiza and Formentera

Ibiza and Formentera are paradise on earth. Both islands, coupled with a few islets, comprise the Pityusic Islands (informally known as the Pine islands). Although they are characterized by their own unique features, Ibiza for its incredible nightlife and Formentera for its bohemian ambience; both share a spectacularly natural island beauty. Boat rentals in Ibiza and Formentera allow you to enter a world of astonishingly colourful coves and pleasant crystalline clear sea waters.

Boat Rental Areas in Ibiza and Formentera

The main ports where we rent boats in Ibiza and Formentera are Port d’Eivissa in Ibiza and La Savina in Formentera. Boat rental demands are extremely high during summertime so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment!

Port d’Eivissa is a fishing, comercial, sport and travel port. It’s equipped to protect all types of vessels; sailboats, catamarans, motorboats amongst others. It has over 1400 mooring berths, including super yacht berths. You can see yachts in Ibiza docked under the fortified city, Dalt Vila.

La Savina, situated in the north of Formentera, is the largest port on the island. We advise that you keep your boat rental distanced from the breakwaters, in order to avoid the incoming and outgoing ferries. These ferries do Ibiza-Formentera up to 100 times a day in the summertime and they can get rather close to the breakwater! The port has many berths for all types of vessels.

Weather and Sailing Conditions in Ibiza and Formentera

Usually the weather conditions in Ibiza and Formentera are ideal for sailing. As the sun shines, your boat rental glides along the spectacular, turquoise, Mediterranean Sea effortlessly. Summer is delightfully warm and winter is pleasant on these Mediterranean islands.

The recommended sailing period is from April to October. Generally, Formentera has the warmest climate with the least rain in all of the Balearic Islands, with temperatures frequently peaking 30ºC in July. The sea is also particularly warm in this area, with temperatures ranging at approximately 19ºC in April, reaching 25ºC to 27ºC in the summer months.

Although in the summer season the winds prevail from the south and east, Ibiza and Formentera don’t always see blue skies. Storms seldom occur in summer, but when they do, the majority come from the north-east.

In autumn, when the cold air currents meet the warm water of the sea, the conditions can become more adverse. The tramontana wind, a strong and dry wind, prevails in the winter season and can sometimes be dangerous. In spring, advection fog may occur in the area, due to the stronger sun causing the sea water to evaporate into a colder environment, generating cold and compact clouds over the sea.

Remember: it’s always important to check the weather conditions in advance before sailing on your boat rental. Though in places like Ibiza and Formentera, it’s very probable that the climate will be fantastic!

Itinerary Ideas for Ibiza and Formentera

As well as the beautiful beaches, boat rentals in Ibiza and Formentera allow you to explore their more hidden and exclusive coves. The clarity and temperature of the Balearic Sea provides sublime conditions for snorkeling and other aquatic sports.

The sunsets here, are really something else. Contemplate the breathtaking views from your privileged seat of your exclusive boat rental! We recommend anchoring in Cala Comte or renting a buoy in s’Espalmador. Handy tip: You’ll have better sunset views on windy days and also after a rainy day!

The beauty of Islote s’Espalmador is so breathtaking, it’s a source of inspiration. On some of its beaches, such as Platja de s’Alga, you can even treat your skin to a mud bath! However, if your real objective is to relax and unwind, we advise avoiding this area in the peak summer season, as it can get very touristic.

The Es Trucadors beach is one of the most paradisiac stretches of coastline in the area, where you can only anchor if your boat has a shallow draft, as the depth is at 1½ meters. Other must-see beautiful beaches where you can snorkel are: Ses Illetes, Cala Saona and Cala des Mort.

You may have already seen a photo in magazines, travel brochures or instagram, but another thing you can do, is visit the traditional Faro de la Mola and Faro de Cap de Barbaria on your boat rental in Ibiza and Formentera.

Don’t miss out on exploring the islands’ gorgeous bohemian villages and towns. A great way of seeing things quicker on land is renting a scooter or bicycle. Es Pujols is a definite must-see! In Ibiza, we strongly suggest a walk around the enchanting old town, Dalt Vila, where you can experience a sensational evening ambience—this island is famous for its clubs, bars and discos.
