About the experience

TOBAGO is equipped with high lifelines fitted with safety nets for children. It also features a genoa (replaced in 2018) rigged on a furler; a Profurl MK0 furling mainsail boom with a rigid vang (cylinder replaced in 2021); a Walder boom brake; an electric heater; and a 100-liter water tank.
Day charters are only available with a skipper, as the sailboat is too far from my home to make two round trips in a single day. Charters with a skipper incur no additional charges.
The boat is moored in a private harbor where I am prohibited from taking non-residents on board. Therefore, check-in at 9:00 AM and check-out at 6:00 PM will take place in the port of Thonon-les-Bains.

    I don't think I've ever met such a kind and accommodating boat charterer and owner! Serge even saved our day at the end of the cruise when our CGN shuttle was canceled, and we were able to co-sail home. Despite its age, the boat is in very good condition; everything is easy to use, and the level of interior comfort makes it ideal for a long cruise on the lake. We would happily do another lake cruise to explore the other parts of the lake we didn't have time to see.

    We were able to rent the TOBAGO for six days and five nights. The handover of the boat to Thonon les Bains took place in a collegial and yet clear and understandable manner. The specialties were pointed out and all questions could be answered. During the rental we had a small problem with the engine. Serge was quick and easy to contact.     Spent 3 nights onboard Tobago with our 3 children (2yrs, 8yrs & 10yrs old) in May 2024. We were probably the first booking for the season, and started with heavy rain unfortunately. But the owner (Serge) was impeccable and explained all the details very well. We visited Rolle, Lausanne, Evian then back to Thonon. The weather improved and we had a fanatic holiday. Already booked the same boat again this summer since it was good for our kids and everything worked.

    Summary: My wife and I rented the vessel, Tobago, from Serge for a week beginning in July 2022. Serge is a great boat owner, Tobago is a great sailboat, and Lac Leman is a wonderful place to navigate. My wife and I had such a great time - it was truly the experience of a lifetime. Serge was a delight to communicate with over email and provided us insights about our sail plan leading up to the rental. He was also very sweet in person - reviewing the boat with us and taking us for a brief sea trial before handing over possession of the boat. He was also very thoughtful in providing the vessel with full tanks of gas and water. Tobago is an easy-to-sail boat and highly maneuverable on the water. It carries crisp sails and an in-boom furler, making it very easy to navigate. The interior is clean and all electronics function as designed. The galley is very comfortable with a working stove and refrigerator for light meal preparation while docked. Sleeping quarters include a v-berth, quarter-berth and two settees in the salon. This was our first time sailing on Lac Leman - we learned very quickly that the winds start light in the mornings and crescendo in the evenings. We'd sailed at 10am so that we could enjoy the water and arrive at the next port before 4pm so that the winds stayed light enough to dock in unfamiliar ports. We used an app called SeaNav on our iPhones to navigate from port-to-port and used an app called SailFlow to review the wind forecasts. If you'd like to take a look, we posted some reels of our sail on Instagram: @socal_sailing As far as ports visited, we started in Thonon (FR) and visited Lutry (CH), Morges (CH), and Yvoire (FR). Both Swiss ports required familiarity with bows-to mooring while the French ports provided slips. Lutry provided 2-free nights of mooring with registration, Morges charged $15/night and Yvoire charged $40/night. All towns provided a unique charm and we were able to visit a few neighboring towns by foot and rail. Don't make the mistake of calling it Lake Geneva - Lac Leman belongs to all the towns that surround it. To recap, my wife and I had such a great time on Tobago, it was truly the experience of a lifetime.
